| The Site | The slalom is held on
the Farmington River in Burlington, CT.
The rapids will be class 2+ at low water flows, class 3- at
higher levels. In general, Punch Brook tends to be less
technical
but more of a whitewater boater's course than the others in the NESS
series.
In the last 10 years, the flows have varied between 300 and 2800 cfs. We cannot control the maximum natural flow - the dam is many miles upstream - but we may be able to get some extra release if the natural flow is low and the dam has adequate reserve. The race will not be run under 800CFS flow. River flow information is available here. |
|||
| The Course | The course will consist of 18-25 gates with 6-9 as upstreams, on a 300 yard section of the rapids. My intent is to have a sequence that you might do if you were an ambitious cruiser. You will have to use the water wisely, but if you do, you won't have to fight it. Unless the water is very low, there won't be any "mickey mouse" sequences, but strategy will always be important. | |||
